Luoxue Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Central-north Yunnan (border with southernmost Sichuan). The Luoxue Fm was named by Meng Xianmin (S. M. Meng), Xu Jie (S.C. Hsu) et al. in 1944. The type locality is Luoxue, Dongchuan city, Yunnan Province. It is the lower-middle formation of the Dongchuan Gr.

Lithology and Thickness
In the type locality, the Luoxue Fm is composed of blue-grey, greyish and yellow-white, thick-bedded to massive dolomite, algae dolomite, stromatolite-bearing and oncolite-bearing dolomite and siliceous-banded dolomite, intercalated with reddish thin-bedded muddy, sandy dolomite and calcareous slate. The copper ore in horsetail-fiber shape is contained in the basal and lower dolomite. The thickness varies from 100 m to 450 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The formation conformably overlies the Yinmin Fm.
Upper contact
It has a conformable contact with Heishan Fm.

Fossils
The major elements of stromatolites are Conophyton tungchanense, Gymnosolen f., Kussiella kussiensis, Gaoyuzhuangia cf. crassibrevis, Cryptozooon f. etc; The oncolites: Osagia grande, O. lamellosa, O. variabile; The quasired algae fossils in dolomite are mainly Praesolenopara sp. and Actinophycus sp.; besides these, the microplants also occur in slate layers, the main elements are: Trachysphaeridium, Pseudozonosphaera, Asperatopsophosphaera etc.
